Crib Sheet

With so many babies around these days I am so glad I stumbled onto this tutorial from Prudent Baby, (I love her projects and her blog) My Crib sheet was a breeze to make, soon I hope to make some crib sheets out of fleece. Pictured here is a flannel pinstrip sheet, I also made a Toy Story sheet, my little 2 month old should like that one soon!

I loved this project because you can make more than one at a time and still get them done in an afternoon, and with so many fabric chices to chose from it's so fun to customize your nursery! Yay!

Homemade house cleaners

Floor Wash:
1 Cup Distilled White Vinegar
1/2 Capful Liquid Castile Soap
2 Gallons warm water

Mop
2 Gallon bucket
Measuring Cup

Good on Linoleum, vinyl, time and wood

Add vinegar and soap to bucket, then add water. Swish with mop to mix, then wash floors, but don't get then to wet. Let air-dry--no rinsing necessary.

Furniture Polish:
2 Tbsp. Olive Oil
1/4 Cup Distilled White Vinegar
1/4 tsp. lemon Oil(or fresh lemon juice)

Funnel
Measuring Cup and spoons
Lidded 8oz. squirt bottle
Microfiber cloth(clean soft rags)

Using funnel, pour olive oil, vinegar and lemon oil into bottle, Shake to emulsify. Squirt polish onto microfiber cloth and rub on to wood. Always go with the grain and evenly distribute polish.

HE-friendly Detergent:
1/2 Cup Washing Soda
1/2 Cup Borax
1 bar lavender Castile soap, grated(about 1 cup)
1/4 cup baking soda
15 Drops lemon Essential oil

Rubber Gloves
Measuring cup
Lidded 24oz Plastic container

Put on gloves. Add washing soda, borax, grated soap, and oil to lidded container. Cover and shake well. use 3 Tbsp. detergent per load, or slightly more for very soiled cloths.

Glass Cleaner:
3 Cups water 2 Tbsp. rubbing alcohol
1/4 Cup Distilled White Vinegar
5 drops lavender essential oil(optional , for scent)
1/2 Tbsp. liquid Castile soap

32oz Spray Bottle
News paper

good for cleaning windows and mirrors and car windshields

In a well-ventlated area, use funnel to pour water, alcohol, vinegar, into bottle, Shake well. All soap. Shake well. Spray windows; wipe with newspaper.

Wall Spritz:
2 Tbsp. Borax
3 Cups warm water
1/2 Cup Distilled White Vinegar
6 Drops grapefruit essential oil
1 tsp. Liquid Castile soap

32oz spray bottle
rubber gloves
sponge

use on painted walls, this spray has germ- killing capabilities and can remove a variety of marks, including crayon!

Using a funnel, add borax, water, vinegar, and oil to bottle. Shake well to emulsify. Add soap. Shake well. put on gloves. Lightly spry on walls, and wipe with a damp sponge as needed. (work from the bottom up so streaks don;t form).

Pasta sauce ideas

This is an amazing editoriol from Food Network, go here to read the article, these are my favorite ideas, this month is a great month to find some great deals on pasta sauce, keep your eyes pealed for the deals

My favorite pasta sauce is bertolli

 Spanish Rice Cook 1 cup rice according to the package directions, substituting 1 cup pasta sauce for 1 cup of the water; stir in capers, Spanish olives and chopped scallions.


 Potato Casserole Mix mashed potatoes, some pasta sauce and grated parmesan cheese in a casserole dish; top with more sauce and cheese and bake at 425 degrees for 30 minutes.


 Zesty Chip Dip Combine equal parts sour cream and pasta sauce in a bowl; stir in grated parmesan cheese, ground pepper and oregano.


 Minestrone Soup Boil 1 jar pasta sauce and 5 cups water. Stir in cooked small pasta, chopped mixed vegetables, canned beans and grated parmesan cheese; cook until vegetables are tender.


 Cream of Tomato Soup Sauté chopped fresh herbs in butter; add 1 jar pasta sauce, 2 cups water, 1/2 cup heavy cream and a pinch of nutmeg; simmer for 5 minutes.


BBQ Brisket Brown 4 pounds brisket in oil with chopped onions, garlic and red pepper flakes. Add 1 jar pasta sauce, a jar of water, 1/4 cup cider vinegar and 1/4 cup brown sugar; cover and simmer 3 hours.

Pizza Potato Make a deep slit in baked potatoes, then stuff with some pasta sauce, chopped pepperoni and shredded mozzarella; bake at 400 degrees until the cheese melts.

Italian Meatloaf Add 1 cup pasta sauce, 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese and some chopped rosemary to a basic meatloaf recipe (using 2 pounds ground beef). Bake; top with more sauce and cheese 15 minutes before it's done.

Baked Beans Simmer 1 cup pasta sauce with 1/4 cup honey mustard, 1/4 cup brown sugar and 1 large can white beans until bubbly.

 Enchilada Sauce Toast some chili powder in a nonstick skillet; add pasta sauce and canned green chiles and heat; drizzle over enchiladas or tacos.

Pizza Sticks Brush refrigerated breadstick dough with pasta sauce; sprinkle with grated parmesan cheese and bake. Serve with extra sauce.

Sloppy Joes Brown bulk Italian sausage, chopped onions and bell peppers; stir in pasta sauce and heat; spoon onto rolls.

Ideas for cake cake mixes

I love things that make my life easier, and cake mixes are one of my items that is high on that list! I first fell in love with cake mixes when I found a recipe book that caught my curiosity. 101 Things to do with a Cake Mix a great recipe book that I love and go to over and over.

Yep that started my love affair with a simple box of cake mix. Then I found out that wow, you can cook a cake in the microwave in like 13 minutes, awesome right?

one of my favorite cakes is a pampered chef recipe,

Chocolate Strawberry Velvet Cake

Cake

• 1/4 cup plus 1 tablespoon vegetable oil,  divided
• 1/2 cup milk chocolate morsels
• 1 package (18.25 oz) devil’s food cake mix
• 3 eggs
• 3/4 cup water
• 1 jar (12 oz) seedless strawberry jam, divided

Glaze and Garnish

• 1/3 cup melted vanilla ice cream
• 1 cup milk chocolate morsels
• 1 quart fresh strawberries, divided
• Additional ice cream (optional)

DIRECTIONS

1. Brush Stoneware Fluted Pan with 1 tbsp of the oil using Chef’s Silicone Basting Brush. For cake, combine chocolate morsels and oil in Small Batter Bowl. Microwave on HIGH 30-60 seconds or until melted and smooth, whisking after 30 seconds. In Stainless (4-qt.) Mixing Bowl, combine cake mix, eggs, water, ½ cup of the jam and chocolate mixture; whisk until well blended. Pour batter into pan.

2. Microwave cake on HIGH 9-12 minutes or until wooden pick inserted near center comes out clean. Remove cake from microwave. Wipe rim of pan clean using paper towel, if necessary. Center Simple  Additions Large Round Platter over pan and carefully invert. Without removing pan, let stand 10  minutes. Remove pan.

3. For glaze, combine ice cream and chocolate morsels in Small Micro-Cooker. Microwave on HIGH 20-60 seconds, stirring after each 20-second interval, until melted and smooth.

4. To finish cake, place remaining jam into Prep Bowl and microwave on HIGH 30 seconds or until melted; brush evenly over cake. Holding by stems, dip 16 of the strawberries into glaze; arrange around bottom edge of cake. Drizzle top of cake with remaining glaze. Slice remaining strawberries using Egg Slicer Plus; place into center well of cake. Serve with additional ice cream, if desired.

Cook’s Tips: For best results, bake this cake in a 1000-watt microwave with a built-in turntable. This cake can be baked in a conventional oven, if desired. Bake at 350˚F for 45-50 minutes. Proceed as recipe
directs.

Yield: 16 servings

My notes: you don't need a stone ware pan, use a 13x9 Pyrex pan or a microwave safe pan, I don't do the glaze on the strawberries, although it is yummier that way!

Birthday Brownies Recipe

1 pkg. German Chocolate Cake Mix
3/4 c. melted butter
1/3 c. evaporated milk
1 c. chocolate chips
1 c. M&M's

Mix together cake mix, evaporated milk and melted butter. Add 1 cup chocolate chips. Press the dough into a greased 9x13 baking dish. Bake at 350 degrees for 5 minutes. Remove from the oven and sprinkle on the M&M's. Place back in oven for an additional 15-20 minutes.

I just found this, and feel it is sort of fitting for all the Boxs of Cake Lisa said she has during the class this week!!!

Homemade Taco Seasoning

(The ingredient list below should make enough for about 5 to 6 lbs of meat… maybe more?)

Ingredients:
4 tablespoons chili powder
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (more or less depending on how spicy you like it)
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 tablespoon paprika
3 tablespoon ground cumin
1 tablespoon salt
1 tablespoon black pepper

In a bowl mix everything together and store in an airtight container. That’s it!

Our house if filling up with Girly things fast, If your little girl needs some help eating her breakfast like mine does you might have to find a more creative girly way to serve, So we came up with a simple butterfly toast solution it's simple:spread your pb, or nutella or what ever your spread is, Cut your piece of toast in half diagonal, then turn the two pieces around for the butterfly wings, in the middle you could but a carrot stick for the body or banana, or line up cheerios or what ever, but we don't always get to that... Then let your chef decorate it, we like cereal, blueberries, banana's, and raisins.

Couponing: a great way to save

Yep Jenn and I are back again to let you know that we will be teaching
our coupon class again! (can you tell we are so excited?) As we are both stay at
home moms we have practical ways to save money, usually you can save a large amount
off your grocery bill by doing small and simple things.

On a side note, we are hoping to start a coupon club, or a coupon swap night,
look for more information to come!

Here is the information on the class, (through Iowa Valley Continuing Education)

Learn tricks and techniques for getting groceries, toiletries and drug store
items for less or even free by using coupons, rebates, and sales. Stretch your
budget and keep your pantry stocked for a fraction of the price. Instructors
